Description: An absolute classic - this image is probably one of my oldest and most popular creations to this day. And the funny thing? I almost never posted it. When I did this shoot during a morning walk through the fog, I didn't really have any specific ideas in mind... I just liked the look of this tree and decided to take some self portraits next to it. I took a few photos running back and forth, dancing, and then throwing some leaves up into the air for the hell of it - just having some pure good-natured autumn fun!
Later that day as I went through the photos on my computer, I got the idea to edit two of the images from my shoot together - one of me running away from the tree, and then take the leaves from the other photo and paste them into the running photo, making it look like they were following me away from the tree. I've never really enjoyed manipulating my own work very much as I like to keep my scenes as natural as possible, so I wasn't actually planning on posting this - but when I finished editing, I thought it looked like a fun image and decided to see what some of my friends thought about it. After I first shared it, it blew up uncontrollably all over the internet. Now, over 8 years later, I still see "The Leaf Thief" everywhere... with or without credit to me... but I always give a little laugh and think, "isn't that funny... there's the image I almost never posted."
